A Felicitation Ceremony was organised at Kendriya Vidyalaya Kanjikode to honour the latest achievement of the National Long Jump Champion, Sri  Sreeshankar, an alumnus of the Vidyalaya, who recently qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, jumping a distance of 8.26 mts.

The Principal, Shri. Viswanathan K, welcomed the gathering, which was followed by presenting the memento by the Principal and the draping of the shawl by the HM In Charge, Smt. Sasikala Vasudevan.  Teacher representatives from the Primary, Secondary and Higher Secondary sections, Sri. Thomson T, Smt. Sreepriya and Sri. K. Sivadas respectively, shared their experience of having taught the prodigy at different levels. All of them were unanimous in their opinion about his simplicity, dedication, focus, commitment and diligence in both academics and sports.

In his speech, Sreeshankar mentioned the pivotal role played by his alma mater in shaping his sports career. He did not forget to mention the blessings and the motivation that he received from his teachers. He urged the students to come out of their respective comfort zones and to put in the extra ounce of effort to realize their dreams, quoting his own example and the struggles that he had to face en route  to achieve his goal.

The Programme ended with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Mr. Abdul Shumz.

Sree Shankar , son of S.Murali and Bijimol (ex-international athlete) was born on 27/03/1999.
